Career Shift

Shit happens!! And good intentions are not always enough. Sometimes, despite all the efforts to make things better at work, you might just fall short and things not get better. That’s when a decision to let go becomes the only reasonable one. But where to?!

Some are not willing to do major career shifts. For those; moving to another place with the same nature: another hospital, school, city, or even country, would be the most they can do. However, they are at risk of experiencing the same old stressors all over again. And the result would be burnout again.

A second type of workers makes a change within the same field. A physician moving into administrative, teaching or training roles rather than direct caring for the patients is an example. Such a shift would make them close to what they originally liked although without active participation, and without the burden they suffered before.

The third kind of workers who fail to make amends with their job take the major leap and make a complete career shift: a teacher becoming a writer or a physician opening a restaurant. Such a change needs the most of good planning and the bravest of a heart.

One point to take care of: change doesn’t equal success. Again in the new place, you need realistic goals and clear paths to achieve success, otherwise things would go from bad to worse. However, the process of taking the decision, planning and implementing the change would surely help you grow and mature personally.
